2 Corinthians 13:5

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realise that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course you will fail the test?”

Everyday people change their minds about various things. For instance you may change your mind about your preferences in household goods, motor cars, music, film actors – just about anything. You in fact “turn” ie, change your mind and are converted to something new.

To be converted to Jesus however, is not a trivial thing like changing a washing brand, but the basic principles are the same. The change of mind required to turn to Christ is quite different. Changing your mind about Christ is a way of speaking about repentance, from whatever you used to think regarding Jesus and you now see Him as the world’s only Saviour.

Furthermore your choice to trust in Christ is not something you yourself engineer. There is a power outside of you that draws you to Christ and enlightens you. You begin to see Him in a new light. You begin to understand the message of the Cross – that Jesus died there as our substitute and so you turn to Him.

The idea of conversion although common to us in everyday experience is very different when it comes to Christ. Conversion to Christ is not merely making a trivial decision from a smorgasbord of religions. It is a “turning” that has eternal consequences. Conversion to Jesus is a profound and supernatural event which touches us on the inside. Is that what happened to you? Examine yourself.

Prayer
